From Data Transmission to Sensing: Highlights from the ICON and ECO-eNET Innovation Day

Earlier this year, the ICON project proudly partnered with our sister Horizon Europe SNS-JU project, ECO-eNET, to host a joint Innovation Day focused on the evolution of optical communication infrastructures.

Under the theme “From Data Transmission to Sensing”, the event brought together experts, researchers, and industry representatives from both consortia. The sessions explored the paradigm shift from traditional, passive communication networks to intelligent, context-aware platforms that integrate distributed fibre optic sensing directly into existing networks.

This collaborative workshop highlights the strong clustering synergies between ICON and ECO-eNET. By sharing early achievements, use cases, and technical challenges, both projects are working together to advance Europe’s digital and green transformation through smarter, more resilient optical infrastructures.

We invite you to read the full recap of the event and discover the key takeaways from our joint sessions on the ECO-eNET website.
