Sustainable Future Networks Webinar Highlights ICON’s Vision for Smarter Optical Networks

22nd of October 2025 – The ICON project was prominently featured in the webinar “Sustainable Future Networks: Focus on ICON Project”, which explored how next‑generation optical infrastructures can evolve to meet Europe’s sustainability, resilience, and digital‑sovereignty goals.
During the session, project representatives discussed how ICON is developing distributed fiber sensing capabilities—turning existing telecom cables into powerful environmental monitoring tools. This approach can help detect vibration, strain, temperature changes, and physical disturbances in real time, enhancing the stability and security of European digital networks.
The webinar also highlighted ICON’s interdisciplinary approach, combining advanced photonics, AI‑enabled signal processing, and large‑scale field trials across partner networks.
